Our Response to COVID-19

What's Happening at West Fort Worth Center of Hope

In recent weeks, COVID-19 has created challenges for many of us, especially for those living in the Las Vegas Trail community of Tarrant County. The impact on children and families living in poverty has been great and there is no shortage of need! Therefore, West Fort Worth Center of Hope is partnering with local churches and other nonprofits to serve our LVT neighbors.

Our primary objectives are to provide food and financial help to families. When we learned the number of families seeking help is significantly increasing, WFW Center of Hope board members went above and beyond to get provisions and delivered $1500 worth of food to hungry families on March 26th.

In collaboration with LVTRISE, Birchman Baptist Church and The Hills Church, we are continuing to provide groceries for families living in the LVT community. We have a matching grant of $25,000 that is funding this concerted effort. We are reaching out to apartment complexes to help families struggling to pay their rent and utility bills. This will continue as long as we have funds to assist. We are staying in contact with 100+ families involved in our Camp Hope LVT program. Our staff is checking on them regularly, offering prayer and comfort, and informing them of food distributions scheduled and other available resources.  We are communicating with local churches, organizations, and nonprofits to stay informed of opportunities to serve, donate, provide groceries, and pray.

What You Can Do to Stay Connected

Volunteer Opportunities:

  • Prayer Volunteers: Prayer is powerful and effective. We need prayer volunteers to pray over specific requests from our LVT community.

  • Participant Advisors: These volunteers would call/text participants to help diminish fear and instill hope by building a relationship of trust. Advisors may also help the center by communicating the participant's needs to staff. Volunteers interested must be over 18 and receive training.

  • Tax Preparers: A partner agency has identified a need for volunteers to assist individuals in preparing their tax returns. The need is for phone screeners initially. If you have experience in tax preparation and are interested in volunteering, please let us know.

  • LVT Rise Volunteers: These volunteers would help to unload groceries, and bag them for our neighbors on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9-12pm.

  • Other: There are a number of opportunities with our partner organizations that volunteers of all ages can help with.

If you are interested in helping with these, please contact our volunteer coordinator: kaleigh@wfwcenterofhope.com
